Daniel Foxsmith is a writer and director of film and theatre, and sometimes operates his own camera. Whatever the role, his work starts somewhere ordinary and doesn’t stay there.
Ex-paramedic for West Midlands Ambulance Service. Trained as an actor in London. Spent years touring award-winning shows across several continents, then picked up a camera and a pen. His first full-length play, The Observatory, won the Methuen Drama Prize. He co-founded a multi award-winning company that toured nationally and internationally and was part of the British Council Showcase.
Shortlisted for the Bruntwood Prize, the Yale Drama Series Prize (WEALD, published by Oberon), the RSC’s 37 Plays (RIPTIDE) and the Slick Films Prize. Script doctor, dramaturg and consultant writer at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester. Guest lecturer on LIPA’s BA Acting (Screen and Digital) and at Manchester School of Theatre. Born a Kentish Man (west of the Medway; the distinction matters, and getting it wrong is bad luck), now based in West Yorkshire.
